One of the most popular bands to come from the 1980s New Wave genre, their iconic hit “I’ll Melt with You” has been one of the most played songs on U.S. radio with over 7 million plays, and its video was one of the first played in heavy rotation on MTV during the network’s infancy. Formed in Colchester, England, the band’s debut album, 1981’s “Mesh & Lace,” has become a standard from the post-punk era. They have since released numerous albums, including “Take Me to the Trees” in 2017 and “1,2,3,4” in 2023. They are widely respected as post-punk innovators due to the discovery of their catalog by younger generations and new and emerging artists who credit them as an influence.
