This class is designed for anyone who wants to enjoy the creative and expressive movement of Modern/Contemporary Dance. Sara Yanney MA, MFA, LPC, R-DMT, GL-CMA, AmSAT, CET, the instructor, designs the class to be accessible for all levels. It is designed to enjoy the organization of dance technique in the body while also experiencing the joy of movement. For some combinations, there will be different options for difficulty, students can always ask for accommodations, and students are always welcome to change movement to accommodate their body. If you come from a dance background, this is a great opportunity to work on your technique, refresh basics, and dance in community. If you are new to Modern/Contemporary dance, welcome! Class starts with floor work, center technique exercises, across the floor movement, and center movement combinations. Sara comes from a background in Modern/Contemporary dance, with her BA in Dance from the University of New Mexico, MFA in Dance Performance from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and 20+ years of dancing with companies including The Bill Evans Dance Company, Motus Dance Company, Wellspring Dance Theatre, and is also the founder and director of the =ibrium Dance Project: Dance for EveryBODY. Sara is a certified Evans Laban/Bartenieff Based Modern Dance Technique teacher, a certified Laban Movement Analyst, and certified Alexander Technique teacher.
