About this Event
Enjoy this fast-paced workshop and learn the fluid and graceful lettering script of brush calligraphy. You will learn the basics strokes that make up the entire alphabet by applying and releasing pressure on the brush pen(s) provided. Participants will be encouraged to develop their own style by longtime calligrapher BerylAnne Hodgins, as she demonstrates the various applications this script is capable of. Great alphabet for anyone to learn as no previous experience in lettering is required. This workshop is offered by BerylAnne Hodgins, owner of Letter Perfect Calligraphy. With over 35 years experience in lettering and a fun and energetic approach to teaching, you will be shown: a) the variety of tools that are available for this script b) basic strokes that form the alphabet, numbers, ampersands and some elegant flourishes c) exercises to keep your movements fluid e) individual upper and lower case letter formation
ALL supplies are included: a) Set of two black Tombow Fudenesuko brush pens (one hard and one soft tip) with flexible brush tip that provides optimal control, as well as the ability to create varied line widths without needing to switch pens. These water-based pigmented black ink, do not smear when used with other water-based mediums. b) Handout including letter strokes and complete alphabet/number/ampersand/flourishing practice sheets and exemplars c) Rhodia graph and plain paper for practice.
This class is THREE SEPARATE evenings as posted with the actual alphabet being taught in segments (ie: First session: lower case alphabet, second session: quick review & upper case alphabet with exemplers and numbers, Last session: joining letters - learning to write full sentences/paragraphs, quick overview on composition of a quote, using a light table and coloured markers etc.)
Water, pop, coffee, tea as well as pre-packaged snacks such as chocolate bars and chips are provided but if you wish to bring your own snacks/drinks, please feel free to do so.
The workshops are in the Studio located on the lower level so you will be required to go up and down one flight of stairs (*with sturdy banister) independently.
