Training Lead
Sheena has worked in education for over 40 years, undertaking a variety of roles in that time. Her early teaching career began as a nursery teacher in two London boroughs, before moving to the Southwest and teaching across the whole primary age range. Her interest in early years led her to teach Early Childhood studies at FE colleges and for ITT programmes.
Devon LA approached Sheena to help set up a team of Early Years Advisors, which she went on to manage and lead. In this role Sheena earned a reputation for her knowledge of high-quality curriculum and working successfully with schools in challenging circumstances following inspection.
She left this role as Lead Advisor to work independently and enable more time to be spent in school. During this period of working independently, Sheena was engaged by many strategic partners including the LGA, CAPH, Somerset LA and an 18-month period as consultant Head of Primary, opening a new 0-16 school. In order to maintain a broad overview of early year’s education, Sheena has spent the last 6 years combining part time LA work in Torbay, with an EYFS school improvement role in Devon, Dorset and Cornwall, working across a number of MAT’s. This flexibility allowed her to combine her love of being with children in the classroom, with the strategic oversight of a Head of EY Service. Sheena has recently finished her LA career and now focuses upon her school improvement work and delivering CPD for EYFS Leads, Head teachers and subject leaders. Her ambition for wanting children to have the best start to their education journey, has been the momentum for remaining in the EY sector.
