Love synth-pop? New trio Model Kit plays at Valentine's Day show at Best Video Film & Cultural Center on Sat., Feb. 14. Mitchell Sigman opens the show with his own synth-pop music. The cover is $10.The trio behind Northeast US-based Model Kit are unapologetic in regards to leveraging 80's synth-pop DNA to achieve their vision: modern romanticism conveyed through layered synths, metronomic beats, and soaring melodies. Their tunes are evocative of a magical time when mascara-Goth and sweater-clad Yuppy shared the same dance floor until dawn, an infectious blur of androgyny, stiff hair gel, and "Choose Life" t-shirts, all enveloped in the occasional whiff of clove cigarette. Yet don't let these musical trappings fool you—Model Kit is committed to straight-up songcraft, pure and simple.
Mitchell Sigman is a keyboardist/guitarist/producer based in Stamford, CT. He was keyboardist and MD of 80s synthpop act Berlin (“Take My Breath Away,” “The Metro”) from 2000-2007, and did a year-long stint with Survivor in 2010 (“Eye Of The Tiger,” “The Search Is Over”). In 2011, he relocated to Vegas, performing in numerous cover bands as a guitarist and keyboardist, including 80s band, The Nancy Rayguns, rock hooligans Droids, and the retro 60s pop outfit Kimmie & The Keepsakes. Recently, Mitchell and wife Kimberly Wood have begun performing acoustic covers in the duo LoveBug.
Mitchell was lead designer for music software developer Cherry Audio, until March of 2025 where he designed over 25 top-selling virtual instruments.
His original synthpop project Celebutante has had numerous film and TV track placements, including “Jersey Shore,” “The Bold And The Beautiful,” “The Young and the Restless,” “Burn Notice,” “Monk,” and “Paris Hilton's My New BFF.” He won a fanciful BMI award for his work on the Berlin track “Scream,” used as the theme song on the Lifetime drama “Angela's Eyes.”
In 2020, Mitchell released his unique solo space-rock record “Outbound,” - the archetypal concept record.
