This month, Mocha Mic with Millie: On the Move is coming to Hoboken, partnering with the Hoboken Historical Museum for Poetic Pages: Where Black Poets Speak ππ€βa special tier of Mocha Mic that uplifts Black poets, preserves their stories, and creates space for connection and reflection. Iβm thrilled to partner with Poet-in-Residence Danny Shot for this celebration of artistry and storytelling. π€β¨
Weβll feature three incredible local published Black poets sharing their publishing journeys, creative processes, and the depth of Black experience through their work.
Featured Poets
Don Krypton β Poet, comedian, author of Ill-Logical, and General Manager of Evoluculture. A driving force in New Jerseyβs poetry scene. β‘ He is also a founding member of the Newark Poetry Council and has performed and collaborated across the state.
Shakira Joi β Poet, author of Stages of a Woman, educator, and founder of Technically Speaking Now, blending tech, storytelling, and empowerment. π»ποΈ She uses her poetry and teaching to spark reflection, self-awareness, and agency in underserved communities.
Justin Johnson β Author, poet, and music artist (aka Johnson Soldout), blending words and music to tell his story. πΆ He self-published Scattered in 2021 and continues to release poetry and music that explores identity, creativity, and life in New Jersey.
