adapted for the stage by Paul Graves and Angharad Ormond
presented by The Tower Theatre Company in collaboration with Liminal Space Theatre
Widely regarded as one of the greatest works of American literature, Melville's classic whaling saga Moby Dick hits the stage in a thought-provoking new adaptation.
Nantucket, 1839. The Pequod embarks on a fateful voyage under the formidable Captain Ahab, a man consumed by his relentless quest for vengeance against the infamous White Whale who tore off his leg, Moby Dick. Through the eyes of our narrator, Ishmael, we encounter the ship's diverse crew including Queequeg, the enigmatic harpooner far from his island home and Pip, the tender-hearted cabin boy.
As the Pequod plunges into perilous waters, this gripping production explores timeless themes of trauma, obsession, prejudice, and humanity’s fraught relationship with nature.
The mythological figure of Moby Dick is brought to life through our female chorus, The Furies. Blending puppetry, live music, and dynamic physical theatre, this adaptation transforms Melville's epic into a surreal, visceral experience like no other.
Content warning
This production includes depictions of hunting, killing and butchering of whales. The novel contains stereotyping and negative depictions of people and cultures however it is our intention that this adaptation will be sensitive to these characterisations and develop them through an anti-racist lens.
