About this Event
The recent period has seen a significant and disturbing growth of support for the far right across the UK.
We therefore welcome the recent launch of Together Against The Far Right. This initiative brings together over fifty organisations—including the TUC and most trade unions—and is supported by many well-known public figures including celebrities, musicians, cultural figures, politicians and thousands of ordinary people.
Together is organising a national demonstration in London on Saturday 28 March: a massive show of unity in the face of the politics of hate and division.
Stand Up To Racism North East and the TUC North East, Yorkshire and Humber are hosting a mobilising meeting to build the broadest possible support for the demonstration on 28 March.
This meeting is aimed at representatives of trade union branches and anti-racist and community organisations.

The reasons for such an initiative are clear.
During the summer of 2024 racist riots erupted around the country, including here in the North East. More recently racist protests at hotels housing asylum seekers have taken place, from Epping near London to the New Bridge Hotel in central Newcastle.
On 13 September, fascist Tommy Robinson and 100,000 of his supporters marched through central London in a racist ‘Unite the Kingdom’ event.
Many were shocked to see Reform UK gain control of Durham County Council in May this year. The far right party is now running at 30 percent in the polls and is predicted to be the largest party at the next general election.
The ‘Raise the Colours’ campaign, funded and backed by the far right, has involved racist activists attempting to intimidate our region’s diverse communities.
In response to all this there have been magnificent shows of unity and solidarity. On 27 September around 3,000 anti-racists gathered to oppose Ukip in central Newcastle.
There have also been scores of other mobilisations against the far right.
We believe that the majority of people reject the politics of hatred and division peddled by the likes of Robinson, Farage and the far right. We support the call for a massive show of opposition to the politics of despair and hate on 28 March 2026. It’s crucial that we do all we can to build the widest support for the event.
