The evening event will feature local artists and makers, local food vendors, and live music from local musicians: Alex Silver, Bob Black, Chico States, and Leif Sherman Curtis. Stay tuned! The Mobile Free Pantry will be a semi-permanent free pantry and fridge organized, built, and sustained through mutual aid efforts and community engagment. All are welcome to participate and contribute from fiscally and physically building the pantry to providing or taking what is needed including basic essentials, first aid, survival gear, and food items.
Donations will cover construction costs and materials, fund and support community build workshops, and outfit the pantry and fridge with sustainable materials in order to serve Portland's various neighborhoods throughout the changing seasons. Fundraising goals have been set with a consideration for inflation, the shifting costs of building materials, and unforeseen incidentals as part of the project build.
The Mobile Free Pantry is a project of Port City Mutual Aid, a collective of working folks addressing the immediate needs and effects of housing and food insecurity through direct outreach, free stores, and related engagement. We Built This is a partner organization that will lead a series of workshops open to the public to actively engage community members in all efforts of the pantry build.
