The MNáFiddlers celebrate women in fiddling by taking inspiration from historic players, spotlighting newer female composers, and writing tunes themselves that feature multi-part harmonies on all fiddles! Mná is the Irish word for women, and MN, for Minnesota, is where this group of women fiddlers has steeped in the Irish music scene for many years. Founder Mary Vanorny (fiddle) created the group in 2017 to shine light on the many female fiddlers in traditional Irish music, especially historic women who played a pivotal role in teaching the music from their families and regions. Since then, the MNáFiddlers have taken on many collaborations and performances, including concerts at the Center for Irish Music and at Irish Fair of Minnesota. The MNáFiddlers are: Mary Vanorny (fiddle), Cara Weggler Menge (fiddle and bouzouki), Rebecca Brooke (fiddle), Rosa Wells (fiddle), Abbey Roemer (fiddle), Mattie Ernst (fiddle, harp, and dance), Mattie Snyder (cello), and Emily Doyle (fiddle and viola).
