MMG Mental Health Guest Speaker - Darius Boyd
MMG are excited to announce that we will be bringing former NRL star and mental health advocate Darius Boyd to Wagga!
Darius Boyd made his NRL debut at just 18 years of age and he would go on to represent Queensland and Australia over a 15-year career that comprised of more than 380 top level games.
However, coming from a childhood of not knowing his father, the passing of his uncle and Grandfather and his mother's battle with mental illness, Darius was always fighting an uphill battle.
Boyd took a break from rugby league in 2014 to seek treatment for his mental health issues, and he has been an advocate for mental health awareness and support ever since.
In 2020, Boyd released a book titled "Battling the Blues" in which he shares his story of living with mental illness and provides advice and resources for others who may be struggling.
Darius has since completed short courses in the Science of Wellbeing, Psychiatry & Mental Health, and Emotional and Social Intelligence, a Cert IV in Elite Athlete Wellbeing Management, become an accredited Mental Health First Aid instructor and is currently completing a Diploma of Counselling.
Come and join us for this unique opportunity to hear Darius's inspiring journey and how he has overcome some challenges in his life.
