WACH consistently recognizes the importance and significance of Martin Luther King Jr Day, and fosters community engagement through its annual celebration of the occasion. Each year, WACH brings together a diverse group of talented and passionate individuals, including local poets and spoken word artists who use their craft to pay tribute to the legacy of Dr. King. The commemoration is also marked by a unique poetry and storytelling competition that is open to high school and college students. Beyond providing a platform for local artists to showcase their skills, this event encourages young people to engage with the key messages and values Dr. King espoused, such as equality, justice, and respect for one’s fellow human beings.
This year, WACH invites high school and college students to submit original short stories, essays (under 1000 words), and poems on the theme: "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."
Please submit your work to [email protected] by January 9th. You can read more about the festival and competition at wacharrisburg.org
Refreshments are included!
Thank you to our sponsors, PennLive, Pennian Bank, Capitol Blue Cross, HACC, and UPMC!
