West Suburban YMCA Invites Community to Honor MLK Day Through Acts of Kindness: “Share Joy Through Letters” Event Aims to Combat Loneliness Among Seniors
Date: Monday, January 19
Time: 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Location: Wells Ave YMCA, 135 Wells Avenue, Newton
“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
This MLK Day, join us in answering that question by spreading kindness and connection. Loneliness affects nearly 40% of adults aged 45 and older, according to the American Psychiatric Association, and can have serious impacts on health and well-being. Together, we can make a difference for seniors in our community who may feel isolated.
What’s Happening?
Stop by anytime between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to write and decorate letters for seniors in local nursing homes and assisted living centers. A heartfelt message can brighten someone’s day and remind them they are not alone.
We’ll Provide Everything You Need:
- Stationery, stickers, pens, markers, ribbon, and more
- Letter templates for inspiration
Can’t Attend in Person?
No problem! We’ll be collecting letters all week long. Drop them off at either Y branch, and we’ll deliver them to local nursing homes on Friday, January 23.
Why Participate?
This simple act of kindness fosters connection and community spirit. Your words can bring joy and hope to someone who truly needs it.
Let’s honor Dr. King’s legacy by lifting others up. Join us and make a meaningful impact!
