Expatriate NZ bassist and composer Umar Zakaria premieres his Quartet, with Julien Wilson (tenor sax), Russell Tay (piano) and Dominic Stitt (drums), performing original music from his albums and previewing some of the upcoming projects. He has several international credentials after he was named Best Jazz Artist by Recorded Music New Zealand (for his debut album, Fearless Music) in 2018. He received the runner-up prize at the BASS2014 International Jazz Bass Competition and wasone of three bassists selected worldwide to participate in the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead programme for performer-composers at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.
