Bring your camera and have some fun with color for this interactive class.Let's play with light. Galvin and Vetala will demonstrate the practical uses of Nanlite and Elinchrom lighting systems to give your portraits playful or professional looks.
The Everyday Practical Use Case : One of the more common shoots a photographer can be asked for is business headshots. These "Quick" shoots can be a profitable source of photographic income but are not generally the most creative for the photographer. We will demonstrate how using two lights can light this common portrait.
- We will demonstrate how adjusting the angle of the light will change the output of the light making it seem like a larger portrait source.
- Controlling this output will generate a useful and beautiful key light.
- Adding a second fill utilizing the same technique as the key.
- Adding a backlight to add an edge or "hair light".
- We will show how adding a splash of color to your background can change the background to represent the company colors.
The Wild : Now that we have shown the direct usefulness of these tools we will show how we can get creative using the RGB and RGBLAC tools! Bold color backlights.

About your Instructors
Galvin Collins: Galvin Collins (he/him) entered the business of image creation almost 20 years ago after completing his bachelor's degree in Digital Film and Video Production. As is often the case, upon completing higher education, he discovered that he was right back in school learning the practical applications of all he had learned. Galvin spent the next 15 years as a freelancer, learning and working on all manner of projects. This wide variety of experience is often drawn upon in his current role as Regional Business Manager for the Mac Group, where he represents Nanlite and 20 other exciting photographic brands. Demonstrating creative lighting and working with visual storytellers is the highlight of his work and he looks forward to working with all the attendees!
Vetala Hawkins: Over many petabytes of removable media, I’ve photographed companies, regular people, business people, celebrity people, performers, events, automobiles, nature…anything I can bring into focus.
