About this Event
The Introduction to Carpentry series is developed for beginners, who have no previous experience with tools or in workshops. It is a confidence building introduction to simple carpentry skills.
Make a Bookshelf covers the fundamentals of tool use and workshop techniques. In this 1-day course you’ll learn about basic wood types, preparation, sawing, cornering, and construction.
You will apply your learning as you construct a small bookshelf to take home.
It covers the fundamentals of tool use and techniques, including:
· Confidence in your ability to use the following tools correctly and safely – hand and power saws, drill drivers and measuring equipment.
· Learning to measure and cut accurately
· Practice simple joinery using drills and screws
· Familiarise yourself with the workshop environment, practices and health and safety
What to Bring – Yourself. All tools and materials are included in the registration. Morning Tea (tea, coffee and biscuits) is provided. You will need to provide your own lunch.
What to Wear – weather appropriate clothes you are happy to get dirty in and sturdy closed-in shoes. We provide safety glasses and ear protection.
In this introductory unit, you’ll make a small bookshelf from timber to take home with you.
