About this Event

Join Temple Beth Sholom for our 26th annual Mitzvah Day! This year's theme is "Love Your Neighbor" and it is especially meaningful considering the unprecedented times we are in. Now, more than ever, we need to take care of those in our community who have been impacted by this health and financial crisis.

The day will consist of thirty individual activities designed to support the needs of our community. This year many of the projects will be either virtual or outside with social distancing. Please peruse this year’s list of activities and sign up for the one that is most meaningful to you. There are activities for every age and time commitment.

After completing your activity on Mitzvah Day, make sure to tune into our annual Mitzvah Day Soup Competition. This year, it will be the Soup Virtual Throw-Down, with an “Iron-Chef”-style competition between two past winners making the best chicken soup they can muster. At 12:30 on the Sunday of Mitzvah Day, we will hop on Zoom to watch the video of their throw-down, hear from the beneficiaries and stay on with the winner and Michael Meltzer for a make-your-own chicken soup class. Please sign-up at www.tbsmb.org/mitzvahday to sponsor or watch the soup throw-down for an $18 suggested donation. All proceeds will benefit the American Friends Service Committee of Miami, an immigration advocacy and community organizing group based in Homestead that has been providing hunger relief to the immigrant and migrant worker community in South Dade during the pandemic.

In addition to your morning project, please sign up to donate blood and/or platelets drive at the Blood Bank truck parked outside of TBS throughout the day.

Finally, we invite you to an online teen-led advocacy Town Hall with State Senator Jason Pizzo and the TBS Gun Violence Prevention Task Force at 3:00 pm.
