About this Event
It's been a big year at Missouri Workers Center! In 2024:
- Organizing among St. Louis Amazon workers prompted the largest raise in years (9 percent!), upping starting pay at the company to $19/hour. Workers notched a huge victory worth almost $11 million more in wages at STL8 alone, and they aren't stopping until $25 is the floor for pay at Amazon.
- Drivers with the zTrip IRIS microtransit program in Kansas City launched their campaign to win a union without retaliation, among other demands for improved public transit. In a rare moment, and as a testament to the power of workers coming together to demand better, zTrip's CEO turned up at drivers' rally, only to be drowned out by our strength in numbers.
- Building on the organizing of low-wage workers in Missouri over the last decade for living wages and a union, workers and their allies gathered 210,000 signatures to put a measure on the November ballot to finally raise the state minimum wage to $15 and guarantee earned paid sick days for workers.
- This spring, low-wage workers, tenants, and community allies with the Good Jobs and Affordable Housing for All coalition overwhelmingly defeated the billionaire-owned Kansas City Royals' 40-year stadium sales tax measure at the ballot box. 58% of voters rejected the team's sales tax proposal, which would have burdened taxpayers to the tune of $2 billion without the transformative community benefits — like living wage union jobs and truly affordable housing — that our coalition fought for since January 2023.
- And more!
