The redoubtable Philip Thorby is returning to give another fascinating workshop for NWEMF. This workshop is for voices and instruments, and music will be provided on the day.Philip Thorby writes of the music – “It is a lovely, radiant nuptial mass based on an eight part motet by Gabrieli. Valentini was born in Venice but was head-hunted by the Polish court, and went on from there to serve the Hapsburgs. This mass was probably written during his time in Graz. It has no specific orchestration, being for three broadly equal four-part choirs, each part of which can be sung and doubled (or replaced) by instruments, making it eminently suitable for a workshop for voices, cornetts, sackbuts, curtals, recorders, viols (but no C-clef parts), and other instruments by negotiation! And it really is a gorgeous piece of music by a composer with a very individual musical voice.”
Workshop fees are £15 for NWEMF (and other EMF) members booked before 8 March (£20 after), and £20 for non-members. Students can attend for free.
