Jane Austen’s “criminal mind,” while not literally criminal, refers to her insightful understanding and portrayal of societal ills and the darker aspects of human behaviour within her novels. While her stories often focus on love and social etiquette, they also explore themes of betrayal, deception, and the consequences of immoral actions.
Join Jessica Bull, as she explores these themes through her ‘Miss Austen Investigates’ novels. Find out how her teenage love of Austen led her down a rabbit hole that would eventually inspire her to write stories where our favourite literary icon takes on a whole new role. Insightful, quirky and entertaining!
" I’m a huge Jane Austen fan and Miss Austen Investigates is my way of paying to tribute to my hero. For most of Austen’s life, it looked as though she’d never be published. I really admire the way she persevered to bring us her masterpieces and I wanted to share the comfort and inspiration I drew from her story in a fresh and exciting way. " - Jessica Bull
" I have tried many ways to inhabit Jane Austen’s world, and some of these have been more successful than others – my flock of backyard hens is thriving, but it’s not so easy to learn to ride horseback in your forties! Famously, Janeites love to dress up in Regency costume and I very much enjoyed getting my old sewing machine out to create some. I even turned my very obliging husband into my own leading man by sewing him a Captain Wentworth-style naval jacket." - Jessica Bull
