About this Event
Perhaps no novelist inspired the idealized vision of the English country house more than Jane Austen. Through her sublime writing we are left with romantic images of great houses set in gorgeous landscapes. The reality is that Jane Austen herself visited many of the great houses of England and used them as models in almost all of her books. This lecture will examine country houses that inspired Jane and left us with a fanciful world of English rural beauty unequaled in literature.
We are fortunate to have Curt DiCamillo, Curator of Fine Art at the New England Historic Genealogical Society and authority on the British country house, speak to us on this interesting topic. Since 1999 he has maintained an award-winning database on the web which seeks to document every English, Scottish, Welsh, and Irish country house ever built, standing or demolished.
Curt is an engaging and entertaining speaker with beautiful slides, and we can't wait to hear his perspective on our author.
