Misadventures in the City of Gold: Cautionary Tales from a Professor of Archaeology
With Professor Ian Haynes
The documented history of archaeology is full of extraordinary accomplishments and discoveries. Successive text books in turn often educate and fascinate with tales of projects brilliantly conceived and flawlessly delivered. The practice of archaeology can feel very different at times. Hoping that some good may yet come from some of his misadventures that have so far escaped publication, Ian Haynes recalls an array of lessons, or cautionary tales, that have emerged from his own research projects. He begins with some awkward truths about his early fieldwork in Transylvania.
