Join Miranda and Jim in celebrating the festive season with some gorgeous West Country carols, medieval and secular carols from around the British Isles, moving settings of Christmas poems by Cornish poet Charles Causley as well a choice selection of seasonal songs by contemporary songwriters on the UK folk scene. All delivered by two of Britain’s best-loved voices, accompanied on a variety of instruments and gurt dollop of festive fun! If you are feeling a little dismayed with the over-commercialisation of “Christmas present” then join Miranda & Jim for a journey through Christmas past that will be guaranteed to get you in the festive spirit! Andy Wall, Ruth Bramley and Ann Biggs will, between them, open the evening's music. Ruth has been running the club since 1993, joined by Andy in 1999. Ruth and Ann first sung together over thirty years ago. Under the name Big Apple Pie they performed in many local schools, at children's parties and for 'grown-up' events too including a number of folk clubs and festivals. Although they don't do many gigs these days, they both still thoroughly enjoy singing together. Andy is a much more frequent performer, playing at many festivals, clubs and other events. In 2009 he finally released a much anticipated CD.
There will be mince pies available during the interval.
Doors open at 19:00, music starts at 19:30. Tickets cost £18 if booked online https://www.tickettailor.com/events/elyfolkclub/1507145, or £19 on the door.
