The number of patients with tooth wear has increased dramatically during the last 15-20 years. When the wear is severe and pathologic, a rehabilitation of the worn dentition is needed. In younger patients, a dynamic, minimally invasive, adhesive treatment concept is preferred, nl. localized or complete build-up of occlusion with direct composite restorations. This restorative treatment has to be planned using (digital) study models, intra-oral and extra-oral pictures, and a (digital) diagnostic wax-up. This course covers the different aspects of localized/complete rehabilitation of tooth wear with direct composite restorations. Several methods to build up the teeth in the posterior region will be discussed and practiced during hands-on sessions: the stamp technique or the technique of free-hand modeling in combination with a conventional composite and the injection flowable technique. Finally, the durability of the direct composite restorations placed for treating severe tooth wear will be shown in several cases after 5-15 years of clinical functioning. PROGRAM
DAY 1:
Part 1- Theory – 2,5 hours
Management guidelines of severe tooth wear
Restorative treatment with direct composite restorations
- Selection of the adhesive system
- Selection of the composite
- Clinical procedure
o Localised tooth wear
o Generalized tooth wear
Part 2 – Hands-on – 3 hours
Build-up of worn posterior teeth (24,25,26)
1. Using a transparent silicone key and conventional composite (24,25,26)
2. Using a conventional composite and freehand modelling (25)
Part 3- Theory – 0,5 hour
Durability of direct composite restorations (conventional composite) placed for the treatment of generalized tooth wear.
DAY 2:
Part 4: Theory - 1 hour
Treatment of tooth wear with the injection flowable technique
Part 5: Hands-on - 4 hours
