Escape the city and immerse yourself in art and nature at the Leighton Art Centre, located just south of Calgary in the stunning Alberta Foothills. This event combines a scenic drive, a tour of the historic Leighton home, and time to explore the beautiful grounds and art gallery. Bring your MINI, your curiosity, and your love for breathtaking landscapes!
Itinerary for August 16, 2025
9:30 AM – Meet-Up at Deerfoot City Shopping Centre (Calgary)
Location: Park in the lot near the Starbucks.
Meet fellow club members, review the route, and distribute maps or GPS links.
Ensure everyone has a full tank of gas and is ready to roll.
10:00 AM – Departure for Leighton Art Centre
Start the convoy heading south along Highway 2, then west toward the Foothills.
Enjoy a 40-minute scenic drive through rolling countryside and picturesque views.
10:45 AM – Arrival at Leighton Art Centre
Park in the designated parking lot (plenty of space for our Minis).
Gather for a quick group photo with the stunning landscape as a backdrop.
11:00 AM – Guided Tour of the Historic Leighton Home
Take a tour of the Leighton family’s historic home, where art and history come alive.
Learn about the legacy of A.C. and Barbara Leighton, their art, and their contribution to Alberta’s culture.
12:00 PM – Explore the Art Gallery and Outdoor Trails
Browse the gallery, featuring work from local and regional artists.
Stroll the surrounding trails for breathtaking views of the Foothills and mountains.
12:45 PM – Picnic Lunch on the Grounds
Bring your own picnic lunch or purchase light snacks at the centre (if available).
Enjoy lunch at one of the outdoor seating areas while soaking in the scenery.
1:30 PM – Social Time and Car Show
Spend time mingling with fellow MINI enthusiasts.
Admire everyone’s cars and take more photos of the group against the picturesque setting.
2:30 PM – Departure for Calgary
Regroup in the parking area and begin the return drive.
Optional stop at Granary Road or a nearby café for those who want to extend the day.
3:15 PM – Arrival Back in Calgary
Arrive back at Deerfoot City or head directly home from the convoy.
What to Bring:
Comfortable shoes for walking trails
Picnic supplies: food, drinks, blanket, or folding chairs
Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat
Camera or phone for photos
Cash or card for art purchases or donations to the centre
