Ming Hui is a violinist from New Zealand and Singapore, based in Aberdeen, Scotland. She performs on a hand painted five string AEYRA electric fiddle from Banjarmasin, Indonesia - a place connected to her family history. In stories, fiddle-inspired tunes, and free-jazz-esque improvisation prompts, these places are given a space to reverberate. At times impressionistic, experimental and free, and at others tightly motivic and defiantly joyful, her music finds added complexity through interplay with band members Nuna Mutikani (piano, guitar), Seth Bennett (double bass) and Calum MacIntyre (percussion/drums), who each represent places of their own.
