he Friends of Minesing Wetlands are excited to announce that we will be leading a spring trip into the Minesing Wetlands via canoe or kayak on Saturday, May 18, 2024! If we cannot run this trip due to poor weather, we will cancel and provide a refund. Any later than the 18th, we could be running into low water, and we will be paddling into bug season.
The exact route will be chosen at the discretion of the leaders based on water levels, as well as wind direction and speed. Final trip details such as route, and locations to put in and take out boats will be emailed to participants days before the trip.
Regardless of the trip route we will meet at 8:30 a.m. and the trip will end around 2:30. It takes about 5 hours, as this is an 18 km paddle.
There is a maximum of 12 boats per trip which is reflected in the number of tickets available. Due to the 12-boat limit, we have to estimate the number of tickets for each watercraft type. As a result, we have made fewer kayak tickets available. Please contact us by email at [email protected] to inquire about adjusting the ticket types. Note that this adjustment is subject to spots available.
Important: At least a basic paddling know-how is required for this trip. Participants are expected to bring their vessel, equipped with all of the required safety equipment (life jackets, bailer, whistle, light, and throw rope). We do have 1 canoe that we rent out but you need to meet us at the Tiffin Centre for Conservation (8195 8th Line Utopia) before and after the trip to pick up and drop off the vessel. As well, there are at least three local providers you can contact. Contact [email protected] if you require the contact information for local outfitters.
There is a minimum age requirement of 14 years of age to join the trip.
It is easy to get lost so please remember that during our trip we expect participants to stay behind the lead canoe, and in front of the last canoe, a.k.a. 'The Sweep!'
The fee is $25 per person. This includes a safe passage with certified leaders and ecological interpretation of the Minesing Wetlands.
You are not required to print a ticket.
