Explore how to meet your own suffering with care, kindness, and compassion. Created by Dr. Kristin Neff and Dr. Chris Germer, it is the first time this in-depth course is being offered on Bainbridge Island.
According to the Greater Good Science Center at Berkeley, "Compassion literally means “to suffer together.” Among emotion researchers, it is defined as the feeling that arises when you are confronted with another’s suffering and feel motivated to relieve that suffering." Self-compassion is then the feeling that arises when we notice our own suffering AND we want to do something to alleviate this.

Some of the ways we suffer are by talking to ourselves in a critical way, by pushing away difficult emotions, and feeling depleted when we are taking on the role of a caregiver. Not only does Mindful Self-Compassion offer a rich toolkit for bringing kindness and comfort to ourselves in these stressful situations, it can also be an important force when motivating ourselves in taking action and in setting boundaries.

Research shows self-compassion is strongly associated with the ability to cope with life challenges. It is an inner strength that continually builds overtime and enables us to be a balanced and whole self.

Join self-compassion teacher, teacher trainer and mentor Marina Barnes on this self-compassion journey as it’s hard to do this alone. In this Mindful Self-Compassion Short Course, all participants co-create a space in which we explore the above topics through exercises, discussions, meditations, and movement practices.
