Many people begin the practices of yoga and meditation in order to address challenging life circumstances and relieve suffering. Ironically, even as we discover the deeper potential of these practices for the cultivation of inner peace and spiritual enlightenment, we may find ourselves struggling and stuck with very familiar pain that arises from old wounds, difficult life experiences, trauma, and more.
Being human means that each day will bring unexpected experiences, some of which can be sweet and some of which can be difficult and unwelcome. Stress, physical pain, loss, grief, illness, and more are inevitable visitors that we will encounter. How can we fully experience the beauty of life while also meeting pain and sorrow with as much skillfulness and compassion as possible? How can we address suffering without resorting to suppression or denial?
One respected and researched approach is “Mindful Self-Compassion” (MSC).
Through principles of this MSC program you will:
- Learn why self-compassion is not selfish or self-centered but rather essential for a balanced approach to life.
- Discover why attempts to fix and solve our pain can often prolong suffering or make things worse.
- Explore ways to cultivate, practice, and express compassion for ourselves and others.
- Understand why difficult thoughts and emotions can arise when engaged in peaceful practices such as meditation and yoga, and even in beautiful settings such as this
- Practice meditations that build the foundations of mindful self-compassion and a sense of well-being
- Learn practical tools for coping with difficult moments in daily life.
- Explore ways to address some of the common barriers to self-compassion, including habitual self-criticism and shame
All are welcome! These sessions are intended to be of benefit to beginner and advanced practitioners.
