TRAINING WILL BE IN PERSON IN MIDWEST CITY, OK. VENUE TO BE ANNOUNCED WITH ACCEPTANCE.
Participants in this training will acquire a comprehensive framework for negotiation principles that are crucial for high-stakes and routine interactions with youth. The training will cover self-awareness and mindfulness exercises, strategic information gathering, and creating win-win scenarios. Moreover, it will teach participants how to motivate, influence, and lead youth to resolve issues without exerting excessive control by practicing strategic motivational interviewing processes. The training will also utilize the fundamentals of negotiation to help participants identify early signs of aggressive behavior before the scenario escalates. In already escalated scenarios, the training will focus on practicing organized decision-making and de-escalation tactics.
Continuing education units are pending for CLE, CLEET, and VWC.
This in-person course is limited to 50 students. All registrations are considered applications and do not guarantee approval to participate. OCCY faculty will review all registrations and determine who is approved to participate in the training. Applicants will be notified by JUNE 14, 2024 regarding the status of acceptance to participate in the training. Students are required to attend the entire day of training and will need to provide proof of work schedule or screenshot of request for time off to your employer. This event is sponsored by the Oklahoma Commission on Children and Youth. It is funded in full or partially through a grant from the Oklahoma Advisory Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect through the Children’s Justice Act program that is administered by Oklahoma Human Services. There is no tuition for students.
Zana Williams is an attorney, keynote speaker, and the founder and CEO of Mindful Resolutions.
Mindful Resolutions is an educational training platform that utilizes negotiation, mediation, and restorative justice practices to teach mindful communication, de-escalation, and life skills to at-risk, court-involved, and foster youth (ages 11-18) and adults who work with youth.
She has created and facilitated multiple successful youth pilot programs nationally and internationally.
Prior to becoming an attorney and founding Mindful Resolutions, Zana worked with foster and court-involved youth for over 15 years.
The US Embassy selected Zana as their keynote speaker and youth mentor in the Pledge for Parity in Lesotho, Africa. The Oklahoma Bar Association has recognized Zana for her role in co-facilitating a mentorship-based mock trial program for court-involved youth.
