About this Event
This one-day workshop combines elements of kinesthetics, mindfulness, and flameworking with borosilicate glass, combining two of Saint’s favorite activities–stretching and glass.
The class will start with mindful stretching led by Coach Renado. Using static and active gymnastics-based stretching techniques, we will get back into touch with our bodies and leave feeling connected with ourselves! After getting connected, we will move on to the flameworking studio.
Rather than focusing on creating specific objects, this class encourages students to ‘feel,’ observe, and listen to the glass, ultimately guiding it to a final form. Saint will be around to help solve any problems or obstacles that arise. The workshop will have suggested activities but will be loosely structured to encourage exploration. You are welcome to follow what speaks to you (think small sculptural objects such as chains, marbles, or flora or fauna in borosilicate glass).
What to Expect: This class will focus on a 50/50 split between movement and glasswork. If you are not interested in the movement or mindfulness aspects, UrbanGlass has many other strictly glass class offerings. Flameworking can be difficult and requires a little practice at heat control with the torch to create successful pieces. After demonstrations, expect to make some successful objects in this class and a couple of failures while gaining more confidence and skill in the studio. Read more about how to prepare for class on our Registration Info page.
Eligibility: No Experience Required. Open to ages 18 and up.
Pick-up: The glass needs to cool down overnight then be carefully removed from the mandrels, so the students will have to return to UrbanGlass once notified to pick up their work.
This is an in-person class taking place on-site at UrbanGlass. Health and safety guidelines will be emailed to you upon registration.
Sliding-scale Pricing: Please self-select the pricing tier most appropriate for your financial situation. Those who are able to should select the higher tuition so that we can continue to offer our programs with ample staffing of expert teaching artists, and top quality glassmaking tools and materials in our state of the art studios.
