About this Event
Yorkshire is considered by many to be an idyllic place to live, the beautiful backdrop to so many well known TV dramas and home to an enviable number of successful atheletes from the Olympics in Paris 2024. Few will forget how well Yorkshire was showcased to the world in 2014, when Harrogate was selected for the Grand Depart and the Tour de France that year.
However, there is another side to this part of the country, which many would not care to broadcast; according to the Office for National Statistics, the suicide rate for Yorkshire and Humber between 2020-2022, was 12.3 deaths per 100,000 of the population, against the average of 10.3 deaths for England and Wales.
Harrogate District's rate of suicide deaths for the same period is 11 deaths per 100,000 of the local population, slightly above the average for England and Wales at 10.5 deaths per 100,000.
April 2024, the Office for National Statistics published a report showing that during 2022-23, suicide rates, nationally, had increased by an average of 6% - 5% for men and an 8% increase in female suicides. In fact, the report highlighted an increase in suicides across virtually every gender age group.
Suicide rates in the UK have not seen a significant reduction for almost 16 years - it's time for change!
We can achieve the change necessary by finding those people who are willing and able to do all they can to prevent all preventable suicides and foster good mental health within their workplaces, schools, families and communities.
Mind in Unity - Fostering good mental health through collaboration is brought to you by Harrogate based, , in partnership with North Yorkshire Police Treatment Centres.
This event is being held on October 10th, World Mental Health Day and features more than a dozen speakers (including national charities) on topics such as:
- Men's mental health
- Support for those feeling suicidal
- Protecting children and young people from online harms
- The impact of bullying in the workplace
- Coping with alcohol addiction
- The connection between money and mental health
- Preventing suicides in children and young people
- Supporting those who are bereaved by suicide in the community and at work
- The impact of physical trauma on mental health
- How to unlock your potential by creating a greater understanding about yourself
Full agenda to be published below.
Each of our speakers are from Yorkshire and will discuss these issues from a perspective of hope and what can be achieved, in a practical sense, to support those who are struggling with mental ill-health and suicidal thoughts, if we are prepared to work together and share good practice.
Tickets are just £29.50. This is a non-profit event and all monies will go towards the provision of tea, coffee and refreshments throughout the day, including a buffet lunch.
Book early - ticket availability is limited to just 50 delegates
Ticket order cut-off date is October 1st
Who should attend this event?
Although we welcome anyone to attend who has interest in how we can create greater collaboration amongst those operating in the mental health and suicide prevention space, we are particularly looking to attract those individuals and organisations who are located in the Harrogate and Yorkshire region.
