MIND, BODY, DISEASE, AND TRAUMA: SCREENING TRAUMA IN THE BODY
Traumatic stress has the ability to wreak havoc on the body, resulting in physical symptoms like rashes, lumps, hives, and bumps. In this presentation, three films will be examined for their ability to showcase “trauma horror,” a sub-genre in which the concept of trauma acts as the central cause and effect for the horror taking place in the story. David Cronenberg’s The Brood (1979), M. Night Shyamalan’s Split (2016), and Adam Robitel’s The Taking of Deborah Logan (2014) center on protagonists enduring terrifying physical changes and alterations to their bodies as a result of traumatic stress brought on by childhood abuse and disease.
Come ready to feel your skin crawl and prepare to start reassigning those odd bumps on your body after learning how trauma can manifest itself physically in the body and within the space around it.
Tickets: $12 (In Person & Zoom options available!)
