THE BRONZED CHORUS
If there is any single thing that I know of when it comes to the expansive world of instrumental rock, it’s that even after all that we’ve been offered by acts new and old, there is no way that we’re anywhere near the end of the immense stream of quality that we’re able to bear witness to regularly in the modern landscape of the scene. While my sight is more often set upon the more psychedelic reaches of the style, there is always more than enough glory to be had anywhere else should you simply look. I sat down today with a clear goal in mind to see what the recent workings out of instrumental post-rock were able to bring to the table, and it wasn’t ten minutes before I found far more than I was bargaining for with the latest from The Bronzed Chorus.
While I will not sit here and try to pick apart the differences between what makes a work fall between the worlds of post and psychedelic, I cannot deny that I haven’t been paying enough attention to the former in more ways than one. For all that the sound has done for me, it just happens to be a sound that I haven’t sat down to really investigate, but it’s with “Aki” that The Bronzed Chorus may have just set me down a path of immense intrigue that I simply was not anticipating. Eight cohesive tracks that really embody the best of what post-rock has always been able to offer, it is every given shred of this record that begs you to simply throw down any defenses you may have so that The Bronzed Chorus can work their awesome magic. “Aki” wastes no time in transporting you to a brilliantly colored world that is just as capable of immense flavors as they are deep atmospheres to only further engage and entrance the listener right from the beginning on a level whose magic does not wane no matter how many spins of the record you take. Each song bleeds into the next like creeks flowing into a wide river with every facet of the record coming together in grand harmony and beauty to where one has no choice but to bask in the wonders that are constantly spilling forth in every given track. Bring it all together with a tremendous infusion of electronic elements for even more flavor and grandeur, and how can one be anything but impressed by what The Bronzed Chorus has delivered here?
They are far from a new name in the game by any stretch of the imagination, but it should be incredibly clear after listening to this creation even just once that anyone should see that The Bronzed Chorus is poised to really take over their respective scene so long as “Aki” gets the attention it deserves. It constantly hits home at every turn and never once disappoints with the very ending of the record damn near tear-jerking given it signals the end of a tremendous adventure, but then that’s where one more trip around is the perfect antidote. Even if “Aki” suffers the misfortune of remaining in relative obscurity, those of us who’ve basked in the light of the record know what gem we have here, and The Bronzed Chorus should be extremely proud of what they’ve put forth in this terrific opus.
