The LA Mime Festival presents Mime Fundamentals. Discover the fundamentals of Neo-classic Mime taught by master teacher James Donlon. Explore gesture, energy, form, improvisation, and poetic illusion through introductory exercises inspired by James’ 55 years of international performance and teaching.
JAMES DONLON is a celebrated international performer, master teacher, and director of physical theatre since 1970, performing his original solo programs throughout North America, Europe, and Latin America. The New York Times called Donlon’s work "an extraordinary blend of skill and lunacy”. He is the first American mime/clown invited to perform in the famed Teatro Dimitri of Switzerland. James was film movement coach for Oscar winners Javier Bardem, Kathy Bates, Frances McDormand, and created TV fight choreography for Linda Ronstadt. James has been on the drama faculties of The American Conservatory Theater, The Yale School of Drama, The University of North Carolina School of the Arts, The National Theatre Conservatory-Denver Center, UC-Santa Barbara, UC-San Diego, and the Oregon Center for the Arts. James founded San Francisco’s iconic Flying Actor Studio, and has presented numerous workshops in world institutions like Barcelona’s Institut del Teatre, Mexico City’s Bella Artes, Prague’s National Conservatory of Theater, and the USA’s El Teatro Campesino. Among his students have been Tony Award winner and master clown Bill Irwin, Broadway musical star Terrence Mann, and Film/Television star Benjamin Bratt.
