ACT 2: THE RISING ACTION: DRAMATIC THEATRICAL PRODUCTIONS
It is noted in syllabi and the English Language Curriculum, that each student of (English Language, English Literature, Theatre Arts (CSEC) and Literatures in English (CAPE) should be exposed to the viewing of at least one live production during their course of study. Hence, Milwaz Productions is making Twelfth Night, directed by Renaldo Briggs and Othello, directed by Janieka Tudor-Baptiste, both written by William Shakespeare, available for viewing by all secondary school students, locally. These types of productions are valuable as thousands of secondary school students study William Shakespeare’s work annually, in preparation for their CSEC and CAPE examinations. These students usually crave an impactful theatrical experience that will revolutionize their understanding of the texts taught and read in the classroom.
Thus, this production will:
• expose all students to the prestigious Shakespearean art form, culture, language and society.
• expose students to the timeless themes of Shakespeare’s plays.
• deepen students’ understanding of the plot, characterisation and design conventions of the studied play.
• raise students’ appreciation for the art form. It is important to raise a generation that understands, values, and supports theatre's place in society.
Date: Tuesday 15th October, 2024
*Twelfth Night* 9:00am-11:00am
*Othello* 12:00pm-2:00pm
Date: Wednesday 16th October, 2024

ACT 3: THE CLIMAX: SHAKESPEARE SCHOOL LIBRARIES DISPLAY
Milwaz Productions will be partnering with NALIS (The National Library and Information System Authority) to launch a social media challenge. The challenge will be issued to schools via their (NALIS) network of school librarians and was created to foster a greater appreciation for Shakespeare and his works, in schools, and to encourage students to delve into deeper study of his life and contributions to education. These are intended to be reviewed by a team from NALIS, with the aim of awarding the most creative and inventive schools.
The Challenge:
Design the best Shakespeare Display (to be setup in their school library) and make a short video vlog showcasing your display. The Librarians attached to each school will encourage the students, teachers and library staff to engage in the building of a display entitled “Shakespeare is UNMASKED!”. The display can take any format but must be mounted in the school’s library for students and teachers to visit throughout the period. The displays will be visited and judged by the directors of the Milwaz Productions during the period: Monday 21st October - Friday 15th November, 2024. The school with the best display based on the judging process will be rewarded at their school’s Achievement Day. The team of Librarians have designed a rubric for this competition. It will be shared upon registration The best video submission, outlining how William Shakespeare was unmasked to them will be rewarded. This video is to be submitted by the school via a collaboration tag on Instagram. It is a one (1) minute submission and students will be encouraged to share and react to the video. The video with the most likes and school team spirit demonstrated will be rewarded with a cash prize and trophy and their school’s achievement day. Students should be creative and are not limited to any presentation form. These videos can be submitted between 14th-20th October, 2024. Submission and reaction to submission ends on 15th November, 2024
Date: Monday 21st October, 2024 TO Friday 15th November, 2024
.
ACT 4: FALLING ACTION: The Virtual Student Symposium
The conference workshops will comprise both theoretical and practical one (1) hour sessions and will be conducted by experts in the field of Linguistics, Literature and Theatre Arts from the The UWI, St. Augustine, Royal Shakespeare Centre, UK, University College of London, UK and The Tudor World, UK.
The topics will surround character development, the importance of speech acts and stage directions, the effectiveness of stage conventions- costume, props, sound, lighting etc, alongside many other exciting topics that will be covered in the four (4)- hour long conference. Students would also be given the opportunity to participate in interactive sessions where the UWI lecturers will provide analytical insight on the Shakespearean works: Twelfth Night, Henry V, Love Labour’s Lost, The Merchant of Venice and Othello, all written by William Shakespeare.
The major aim of this rally is to motivate and inspire students; as studying Shakespeare appears to be one of the most difficult aspects of English Literature.
Students will gain the opportunity to:
• meet like-minded students who are passionate about this field of language and the Arts.
• gain innovative ideas and new information from their peers and the presenters.
• sharpen and gain new skills for literary analysis.
• renew their motivation to pursue English Literature.

ACT 5: DENOUEMENT: MILWAZ EDUCATIONAL SHAKESPEARE TOURS
As articulated, our vision is to engage all students, nationwide, in experiential learning of literary crafts and to empower learners/ students & teachers of Literatures in English (CAPE) and English A/B (CSEC). This can be done through experiential learning which is proven to awaken/ increase students’ passion and performance in the Arts.
Some benefits include, but is not limited to:
• increased interest and strengthened focus on literary works.
• increased appreciation for the Shakespearean Art Form.
• recovery of the joys and accessibility to The English Renaissance 1500’s Shakespeare Globe Theatre stage and historical places.
• enhancement of literary knowledge, tolerance and empathy of Shakespearean literary works.
• engagement with Shakespeare enthusiasts from the Shakespeare’s Globe, Southwark, London Bridge, UK and Shakespeare’s Birthplace Trust, through workshops presented in Rhetoric, Shakespeare Verse, Character Play and Physical Movement etc.
• experience of an open rehearsal; which will deepen their understanding of the process of staging a play. We are also discussing the possibility of performing our Shakespeare Festival 2024 Caribbean-flavoured FINALE of Twelfth Night, at parks and Caribbean communities in London. This will also be an excellent opportunity for students for cultural exchange. However, we are confirming itinerary details for this trip and Heads of Departments and Teachers will receive detailed packages for field trip considerations by mid-September.
