Military Genius is a space for abstraction, splitting the atoms of R&B, cavernous dub, and jazz-like dexterity. An innovative spirit lends this project a conceptual atmosphere, where dream logic reigns supreme and familiar genres morph into alluring monsters of our subconscious. Active since 2012, Military Genius has recorded & performed with acclaimed acts including Crack Cloud, N0V3L, and Eve Adams, forming an extensive discography that is subtle yet subversive, twisting conventional ideas of genre at will. Recently relocated to Montreal, "Scarred for Life" is the group's 2nd LP, released via experimental label Unheard of Hope (EU), a soulful and eclectic addition to their ever-expanding sonic universe.

Context, NA is the solo project of Jonathan Pappo, best known behind the kit for bands like Ducks Ltd., Gift Idea, and No Frills, to name a few. Beginning as an outlet for experimental fiction before expanding into sound, the project fuses various poetic forms with spectral folk quiver, intimate musique concrète, and punctuations of emotional post-punk cacophony. Gateless Angel Pauses (GAP), Context, NA’s fourth album, is a culmination of found-sound production techniques with a push for expressive sonic narrativization, deconstructive songwriting, and unique sampling to invoke time, space, and memory. The title of the record is a sardonic reference to the American clothing brand “GAP,” using the franchise and his family's relationship to retail job hell as a jumping off point to find the divine in banal, underrepresented, or exploited experiences. During the lockdowns in 2020, Jonathan moved back to Texas to help with familial illness, informing the record’s contemplations of love, grief, gratitude, and acceptance. The titular figure of GAP is a boundless angel, looking down at Jonathan and our small experiences unfolding into eternity.
