The Jazz Bakery is thrilled to present two extraordinary pianists in duo on two excellent pianos. Both of these musicians are near and dear to us. Mike Wofford was Jazz Bakery Founder Ruth Price's favorite pianist to sing with, starting with Shelly Manne’s band and the Manne Hole. Josh Nelson is a leading presence in west coast jazz and has performed for the Jazz Bakery in many different formats.
Josh has performed and recorded with some of the seminal names in jazz and beyond, including Natalie Cole, Ivan Lins, George Mraz, Benny Golson, John Clayton, John Pizzarelli, and Lewis Nash. This time around, he is one half of the upcoming brilliant piano duo with a very special artist…

We Angelinos have lately been sadly deprived of Mike’s artistry because he has preferred to stick close to his hometown of San Diego. Before coming to the West Coast, I was a singer in New York and as a result was lucky enough to work with most of the brilliant pianists in the area. Of everyone I’ve ever sung with, Mike is by leaps and bounds my very favorite.
Recently, I saw a video of Mike and Josh performing in duo (see below for a real treat). It doesn’t surprise me because I’m well aware of both talents. However, it did make me realize it was way past time to present them !!
