About this Event
WHY THIS CONFERENCE
The Hunter Region, known for its diverse landscapes and vibrant communities, has seen notable multicultural trends in recent years. The Region has attracted a growing number of migrants from various countries.
Culturally Linguistic and Diverse (CALD) groups from Asia, the Middle East, and Africa are becoming particularly prominent, contributing to a more multicultural society.
While the multicultural landscape presents many opportunities, it also comes with challenges, in the workplace, community, and local churches. Ongoing dialogue and collaboration among communities, local leaders, church leaders, and organizations are essential for navigating these challenges and promoting unity.
On the other hand, recent research has shown that the emotional effects of migration lead to increased distress and a disruption in one's sense of belonging(Rudel & Joly, 2024)
THE IMPORTANCE OF BELONGING
Belonging matters, because it is a fundamental human need that significantly impacts well-being, mental health, and overall life satisfaction. When people feel they belong, they experience a sense of security, connection, and acceptance, which fosters emotional stability and resilience. In contrast, a lack of belonging can lead to feelings of isolation, loneliness, and anxiety, contributing to psychological distress.
“Leave no one behind” is the official motto of the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs”s). It is also the central promise of the 2030 UN SDGs. This motto means that the specific needs of the vulnerable including migrants either permanent or temporary, need to be addressed so that each of them can enjoy sustained inclusive, economic and social progress
