About this Event

We are delighted to invite you to join us for a ‘shared learning event’ exploring the collaboration between Migrant Voice and Glasgow Museums on the ‘Putting Ourselves in the Picture’ photography exhibition at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.

In 2022, we set upon a journey together to bring out the heritage of migrants and showcase their contribution to life in Scotland, giving visibility to missing chapters in the representation of migrants in Scottish heritage.

We wanted to ensure migrants are better represented in public life and institutions so future generations will see their place in the history of Scotland and understand they have roots in the country.

This event is an opportunity to hear from Migrant Voice, museum curators, and community members involved in the curating of the exhibition and learn about the process of developing migrant-led exhibitions.

It is also an opportunity for migrants and museum and community development professionals to network and explore creative ways of improving migrants’ representation in the public sphere.

We will accompany you on a guided tour of the ‘Putting Ourselves in the Picture’ exhibition as well.

Join us at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery on Monday, the 28th of April, 1 - 4.30 pm.

1 pm - small group tours of the exhibition begin (you can also go on an individual visit)

1.45 pm - tea and coffee

2 pm - event begins

The ‘Putting Ourselves in the Picture’ exhibition is on display at Kelvingrove until October 2025.

The ‘Putting Ourselves in the Picture’ project, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, aims to ensure that migrant heritage is documented and recognised as part of Scotland’s heritage.
