MiGirl Cherry Festival Parade Entry

Hi Gals, we are doing a Michigan Girl parade entry in the Cherry Festival Cherry Royale Parade in downtown Traverse City on Saturday, July 6! Who wants to join us? We are going to be a walking/biking parade entry. I’d like to gather about 20 members. Everyone needs to be in a Michigan Girl tee (I am placing an order on Wednesday, June 19 for those that would need them). Cost is $25 for tees, but no cost to walk/bike.

You have to be willing to be playful and engage the crowd (I have a feeling this will be no problem for this group). We want people on the sidelines cheering and singing along with us and even dancing lol! 😂 💕

We are partnering with Z93, who will be playing music in their truck behind us. My husband, Tim, will also be driving his pick up truck decorated in pink. We will be walking and biking as a group, wearing fun (pink!) tool belts, and ad libbing as we go lol. More info below and see pic!! I am having people sign up via Eventbrite. You can also order your T-shirt there. You can pick up your t-shirts the morning of the parade.

The parade is Saturday July 6 in downtown Traverse City, and we will stage at 10 AM. It is the DTE Energy Foundation Cherry Royale Parade. (https://www.cherryfestival.org/events/2024/dte-energy-foundation-cherry-royale-parade) The actual parade is 11:15 AM to 1 PM. We will walk about 1 mile. Please only sign up if you can COMMIT to being there!

• Pink pom poms
• MiGirl cowbells

Your Attire:

• Migirl T shirts (any color/version/year)
• (Order by June 19 if you need one or want this year’s version)

Guidelines:

• 18+ only
• Paid members only
• Limited to 20 walkers
• No alcohol (this is a first)
• No profanity (another first)
• Must be willing to dance at the drop of a hat - for better or worse. We will stop periodically and dance around!
• We may also develop a chant that everybody has to learn when we are staging. It will be very simple lol
• Bring your sass, which goes without saying!

FAQ

Can I wear my own tool belt?

Old ugly brown belts are not allowed lol. If you have one you want to use, please decorate it in pink and that will work.

Why members only?

Walking in the parade is a great way to celebrate those who are supporting the Michigan Girl mission through a paid membership. Thank you! (Pics first, rescue second.)

Can we bring our dogs?

No. We are asking that you do not bring dogs as the pavement could be very hot in July and the route is a mile long on pavement.

Can I wear different shoes?

I would love it if you had some kind of pink shoes/boots or shoelaces.

How should I fill/decorate my belt?

I would like the belts to have anything BUT tools in them ha ha! Think of the daily things you need to get through life that bring you happiness. Or funny stuff! Also, any equipment you might wear on a hike or bike would be fun. (See list below.)

Are you providing any items for us?

Everyone will get one pink pom-pom, a MiGirl cowbell, and heart sunglasses.

Do I need to wear a Michigan Girl T-shirt?

I am asking everyone to be wearing some kind of Michigan Girl logo wear. Previous year’s shirts are fine. If you would like to order this year‘s new bright pink shirt, I am taking orders through June 19. They are $25. Order thru Eventbrite when you sign up and pick them up the morning of the parade.

Can I ride my bike?

We are going to dance and chant together. So I am hoping at least half of us are walking so we can dance. If you bike, I would like them decorated in some kind of pink streamers and such. You need to let me know if you are going to walk or bike. This will be fun!!!

Why can’t we put booze in our toolbelt?!

An oft asked question. The parade is a family-friendly event and they have strict rules about it. Also, I am on the Cherry Festival Foundation board. They’ve already threatened to boot me if you guys don’t listen to me, lol 😂. Please do not include any alcoholic or sexually explicit items in your toolbelt - but they did agree that we could include corkscrews! We can hint, lol. 😂

Tool belt item ideas:

• Bike helmet hanging off it
• Hiking shoes hanging off it
• Emergency Toilet paper
• Umbrella (this might be awesome if we get a really hot day, you could use it for shade)
• Chocolate
• Chips
• NA drinks (no booze or wine looking bottles)
• bike bells or horns (these would be so fun to attach to your belt and then honk periodically.)
• Fun pink items you like!
