Middle School Camp! Melty Magic: Glass Fusing

From realistic portraits and animated cartoons, to colorful patterns and graphic abstraction, there is a whole world of imagery you can use to tell your story! Students will design 3D imagery using various forms of glass, including opaque and translucent glass sheets, strands, granules and powders. Camp will cover how to cut shapes out of colorful sheet glass and make drawings with powders and enamel paints, then use the heat of a kiln (oven) to bond it all together. Students will develop their own unique styles and narratives while crafting decorative and functional forms like mobiles, coasters, pendants, plates and wall tiles that play with texture, color and pattern.

What to Expect:  This class is designed for beginners, but students with experience are welcome and will be able to work on more complex projects. Class size is limited to 10 students with 2 expert instructors for an excellent student:teacher ratio. Students will work with glass at room temperature, and learn imagery techniques like fusing, painting, and drawing with powders. Students will break at midday for lunch, but will not leave the building. On the final day, family and friends are invited to a showing of students' experiments and finished work. Eligibility: No previous experience required. Open to all rising and current middle school students.

Please self-select the pricing tier most appropriate for your financial situation. Families who are able to should select the higher tuition so that we can continue to offer our programs with ample staffing of expert teaching artists, and top quality glassmaking tools and materials in our state of the art studios.
