Mid-Michigan Spartans Present: Making Sense of the Brain

MSU neuroscientist, Dr. Graham Atkin, will share how MSU is working to better understand the brain, strokes, and conditions like dementia.
About this Event

The Mid-Michigan Spartans are pleased to feature Dr. Graham Atkin and two College of Osteopathic Medicine medical students for a meaningful presentation on how MSU is partnering with patients and caregivers to improve ways physicians communicate about this amazing and confusing organ.

Dr. Atkin and his students will share:

How physicians talk about the brain in general
How the medical field talks about what is happening in dementia
What the neurological exam involves and evaluates
How physicians determine where a stroke has occurred in the brain.

Participants will learn:

The work MSU is doing with patients and caregivers to train tomorrow's physicians
How dementia is understood and communicated by physicians
How physicians assess a patient's nervous system in the clinic
How the brain is organized
How physicians pinpoint where a stroke has occurred.

The event schedule:

11:30 am - Arrival

12:00 pm to 12:45 pm - Opening Remarks & Program

12:45 pm to 1 pm - Q&A (those on a lunch break may depart at this time)

1 pm - Closing Remarks / Departure

This is a free event. Light fare will be provided for attendees. The event space is generously provided by Michigan State University Federal Credit Union (MSUFCU) at their Headquarters #2 Building located at 3899 Coolidge Road, East Lansing.

Space is limited to 75. If the event is full at the time you attempt to register, please add your name to the waitlist. We use the waitlist to fill spaces created from cancellations. Additionally, the waitlist helps us gauge the degree of interest in our programming.

As with all Mid-Michigan Spartans events, an additional ticket option is available for those who wish to make a donation to support the operations of our club. The donation ticket is NOT a ticket to the event. If you wish to do both, make sure to select a general admission ticket and a donation ticket.
