Join us for a seasonal evening stroll through historic Mid Calder, a village rich in character and charm.
Mid Calder’s history is deeply tied to its location at a vital river crossing — once a busy route for Highland cattle drovers in the 18th century, supported by the many welcoming inns and taverns that lined its streets. The village later thrived with the Glasgow–Edinburgh road and the 19th-century shale oil boom, before becoming the peaceful conservation village we see today.
We’ll wander through its historic lanes and landmarks, passing places that whisper stories of centuries past — from bustling trade days to the darker tales of the witch trials that once took place on Cunnigar Hill in the 16th and 17th centuries.
To round off the evening, those who wish can join me for a festive drink in one of Mid Calder’s cosy hostelries before heading home.

Despite most paths being lit by streetlamps I would recommend bringing a headtorch or hand held torch with you & wearing walking boots as some paths may have puddles or be muddy after rain.
It is essential to book a place on this walk at least 24 hours before the date of the walk, if you wish to attend so we know to expect you & numbers will be limited. Please can you say if you wish to car share at the time of booking otherwise we will assume you are meeting us at the start.
