About this Event
Have you ever tried running in snow or wearing a pair of microspikes over your trail shoes? If not, then then this is your chance! Sponsored by Katoolah, all runners will receive a pair of microspikes to wear as we explore the rugged trails Lochaber in search of snow and ice! Also supported by Petzl, Dexshell and Mountain King poles, we're going to take you on a winter journey where the right clothing and equipment will transform your experience of Scottish winter running.
We can't tell you what the weather will be, but we can tell you it won't be warm! - we may face snow, rain, hail or ice but we will be prepared no matter what.
While we're out on the trail, we'll discuss winter safety and the importance of daylength, mountain weather, snow/ice conditions, prior-experience and informed decision-making in the winter mountain environment. We'll examine the best kit for the job and discover how to get the most from your equipment.
We will embrace the winter weather and celebrate afterwards, back in the warmth of the cafe, with tea and cake! The route will be confirmed on the day, as real-time snow and ice conditons play a central role in route planning at this time of year. Wherever we go, we will run a variety of terrain and gradients over approx 12-15km, with an ascent of 300-800m total, depending on the exact route taken.
You don't need to be a fast runner to come along - you just need to keep plodding with determination!
