About this Event
Attendees will learn and gain practical experience with key features of Microsoft’s Power BI service. This workshop is a full-day, hands-on course intended to demonstrate and teach how to author reports using Microsoft Power BI Desktop and how to create operational dashboards via the Microsoft Power BI Service.
This workshop is a beginner-to-intermediate-level course, intended for business users and data analysts to learn more about data acquisition, data cleansing, data modeling, report design, and distribution using the Microsoft Power BI platform.
Although attendees do not need to be highly technical in order to find value in this workshop, those with experience manipulating data and reporting information using Excel or other similar software will find the Microsoft Power BI tools and course material more familiar. This will be a hands-on, immersive, interactive experience; not a sales pitch. We’ll have fun while learning and applying new tools and skills.
The workshop covers the following tools / topics:
- Microsoft Power BI Desktop: Participants will use Microsoft Power BI Desktop to acquire, cleanse, transform, model, and stage data to be displayed in reports and dashboards. Participants will then leverage that data and Power BI’s gallery of visualizations to design compelling interactive reports for sharing and distribution.
- Microsoft Power BI Service: Participants will then use Microsoft Power BI Service to create an Operational Dashboard based on the reports created using Power BI Desktop. Participants will then learn the basics of sharing and securing those dashboards, and more advanced topics as time permits
- Bring Your Own Data!: There will be time allotted at the end of the workshop for you to bring your own data (Excel, XML, or CSV format, please) to the table and use the techniques and skills gained throughout the day to get started on your own reports with support from the instructors!
- Q&A: We’ll make time for questions and answers throughout the day, but we’ll set aside time for specific questions at the end of the day.
