Community Concerts at Christ Lutheran Pacific Beach welcomes you to an afternoon of spirituals sung by renowned bass singer Michael Morgan with accompaniment by long-time collaborator Janie Prim in the setting of the main sanctuary's stunning mosaics, stained glass, and renowned acoustics.

With this concert, Mr. Morgan bids farewell to San Diego. He is returning to his hometown of Birmingham, Alabama with his high school sweetheart so they can be close to family. Mr. Morgan has called San Diego home since 1987, delighting audiences with performances with the San Diego Symphony, San Diego Opera Company, the Grossmont Symphony Orchestra, and the La Jolla Symphony. He is the founder of the African American Music Foundation, and has served on the boards of the San Diego Chorale, the Spreckels Organ Society, and Bodhi Tree Concerts. He has taught and mentored up-and-coming musicians and music appreciators at Francis Parker School, Warrens-Walker Middle School, and the San Diego Children's Choir.

In addition to presenting concerts with Michael Morgan for nearly thirty years, Janie Prim has worked as pianist and accompanist for Lyric Opera San Diego, San Diego Opera, Old Globe Theater, San Diego Repertory Theater, Cygnet Theater, Ion Theater, and St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church in Poway. Ms. Prim now lives in New York and is thrilled to reunite with Mr. Morgan for this landmark farewell concert.

Admission is free; donations to the Christ Lutheran Music Fund will be taken at the door.

Seating is general admission and on a first-come, first-seated basis. Limit six seats per reservation. If your plans change, please let us know at [email protected]. Reserved seating that is not claimed by 3:45 pm day of show will go to wait list guests.

Parking is available in two lots, both accessed from Chalcedony Street: one lot is adjacent to the church and a second one is across Chalcedony, north of the church. Free street parking is also available.
