In Soaring, Michael Kessler’s newest solo exhibition at Gallery MAR, movement and stillness exist in harmony. Through layered compositions that feel both grounded and weightless, Kessler captures the quiet momentum of nature, transformed through process and abstraction.
Working in translucent layers of acrylic on panel, Kessler pours, scrapes, sands, and tapes his surfaces into luminous terrains. Color is intuitive, yet deeply rooted in place: soft creams, warm golds, and subtle earth tones echo the landscapes of New Mexico, where the artist lives and works.
Soaring is an exploration of balance between control and instinct, line and gesture, nature and geometry. These works invite a slower look, a moment to settle in and follow the rhythms just beneath the surface.
