Miamibloco is a Samba Percussion Community founded right here in Miami. Thanks to the incredible support of the Rhythm Foundation, we now have a new home at the iconic North Beach Bandshell!
We've existed as a community for 4 years now, and this new location represents a new chapter in our story. Whether you've already marched in Carnaval, or have never picked up a drum, Miamibloco is the place for you!
Each participant must register ahead of time to reserve your spot in the group! (it also helps us plan ahead, thank you!)
No experience or drums necessary. We got authentic Carioca Bloco instruments tuned and ready for you along with professional instruction!

Miamibloco is a community-based Bloco ,a.k.a Brazilian samba percussion group, making the sounds of Rio de Janeiro , happen right in our beautiful home in Miami.
Whether you've already marched in Carnaval, or have never picked up a drum, Miamibloco is the place for you!
EVERY TUESDAY THIS DECEMBER, we'll be meeting at The North Beach Bandshell, where we'll have plenty of space to play at a beautiful new venue.
Feel free to arrive earlier, bring your family and friends with you and make a day out of it.
All are welcome, and if you've played with us in the past, or if you just want to try something brand new, come join us at this open workshop. All ages welcomed and encouraged~

What is a Miamibloco Workshop like?
- Our workshops are a GREAT way to get your feet wet in the world of samba drumming. Under the direction of Brian Potts, you'll learn exactly how to fit into the thunderous sound of Miamibloco.
- We provide the drums, and no matter your experience level, we've got a spot for you. One of the most beautiful things about samba drumming is the incredible variety of drums, from the beefy bass of the surdo to the powerful voice of the handheld tamborim. Get in where you fit in!
How do we get to do this?
This Miamibloco workshop is a $20 entry to help us grow by maintaining the drums we have and purchasing new ones straight from the source in Brazil. This also helps us cover cost of transportation, snacks and shelter reservations when available. All levels welcome!
Help us build back from the pandemic, and come be a part of Miamibloco as we grow into the fall---with many more workshops, rehearsals, and performances to come. Come hit drums!!
What is a Bloco ?
Its an intergenerational community, and an experience to channel all you got into music and let it all out through Brazilian rhythms, its laughter, skill-building, mental health, and finally according to our friends at Wikipedia:
" a Bloco a.k.a Carnival blocks, carnaval blocos or blocos de rua are street bands that mobilize crowds on the streets and are the main popular expression of Brazilian Carnival. These parades fall under the term "street carnival", and happen during a period of about one month, beginning before and finishing after Carnival. Carnaval blocos usually perform samba music all around Brazil, but other popular musical styles (also identified with Carnaval) are present in specific regions, including frevo and maracatu in Pernambuco and axé in Bahia."
