About this Event
System Design & Optimization (SDO) – 3 Days*
November 18-19-20
9:30AM - 5:30PM
This course explores the relationship between the predictive perspective of the MAPP 3D Sound System Design Tool and actual sound system performance as measured with FFT‑based transfer‑function analyzers. The instructor(s) will generate and compare data using both tools, in order to help users better understand the correlation between the two. Upon completion of the course, attendees will possess a clearer idea of how sound systems behave in both modelled and real space, and with it, a more informed approach to accurately designing and optimizing systems using Meyer Sound solutions.
SDO is eligible for 18 AVIXA CTS, CTS-D, CTS-I RU.
Low Frequency Control (LFC) – 1 Day*
November 21
9:30AM - 5:30PM
Fusing classroom theory with practical exercises, this one-day course addresses a range of considerations when working with the Meyer Sound LFC subwoofer product line. Topics include verification procedures, cardioid and array configurations, effective cancellation techniques, main-to-LF scaling and alignment, and approaches to combining different subwoofer configurations within a single system.
This course is offered in select instances, as a supplement to Portable System Deployment and System Design & Optimization. Attendees should complete either course prior to taking Low Frequency Control, the content of which is intended for experienced audio technicians.
LFC is eligible for 6.5 AVIXA CTS, CTS-D, CTS-I RU.
The registration fee includes training materials, AVIXA CTS RU, a Meyer Sound Factory tour (on Friday, November 22), Eventbrite fees, and morning coffee + pastries.
COVID POLICY: Meyer Sound requires that all visitors must be fully vaccinated and show proof of vaccination. Unvaccinated visitors will not be allowed to enter Meyer Sound. Face masks are not required, but may be worn if you wish.
Instructors:
Merlijn van Veen
Senior Technical Support & Education Specialist
After studying studio recording and jazz piano at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, Merlijn started his career at the Dutch Broadcast Company doing sound engineering for TV shows such as “Big Brother.” He also worked 10 years at Harlekijn, Holland where he annually mixed more than 150 live performances throughout Europe and internationally before deciding to start his own education program in gratitude for the willingness of others to share their knowledge and experience.
He has developed several calculators to aide in the process of teaching including the Subwoofer Array Designer. Until recently, he was also principal teacher for sound reinforcement at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague for the "Art of Sound" under-and post-graduate program.
Merlijn is moderator of the "test & measurement" board of the ProSoundWeb LAB forums. He provided ongoing aid and support to the 3rd edition of Bob McCarthy’s book “Sound Systems: Design & Optimization.”Merlijn’s articles are published regularly in Live Sound International magazine.
Based in Germany, Merlijn joined Meyer Sound’s global education leadership team in 2018. Merlijn hosts education webinars and roundtable discussions as well as does design work.
